Can't believe I have made it to December. The radiotherapy did not cause me any problems and the day after my treatment finished we left to go and visit two branches of the family. Here we are with the latest grandson, Mathew and Donna the dog:-

After visiting Morag, Phil and Mathew in Essex we went on to see Marsali, Alister and two older grandchildren. It was wonderful to be with everyone after being confined to barracks for so long.

Domestic a.m. and off to the hospital for my nuclear heart scan. I feel I have done full circle as the test was a re-run of the one I had before my treatment began. I had dropped from a score of 68 to 63 which is pretty good considering I have been subjected to cardio toxic chemotherapy. I was told that a top athlete would be 70 and that most people are around 50. Maybe I will be able to do that John O'Groats run after all! Did my exercises in the p.m. as I have been feeling a bit stiff having been out of my r0utine recently. John out at Jack Perry's retirement bash this evening.
Tuesday 8th December, 2009
John had a meeting in town and I did some shopping. Met for lunch in the New Club. Did some exercises late afternoon and started the Christmas Cards at last. Slightly apprehensive about Thursday when I get my first Herceptin. I will be in for 6 hours but only for the first couple of sessions while they gauge my reaction. After that the job is contracted out and someone will come to the house every 3 weeks to give me an injection or perhaps it is a drip?
Wednesday 9th December, 2009
Disruptive day clearing up after the electrician; Martin & Frost delivery and Virgin installation but just as well to get it all over with in one. Had a most enjoyable evening at the theatre with the Patrons who were invited to "The Corstorphine Nativity Play" including a tour of the set.
Thursday 10th December, 2009
Another pin-cusion day at Ward 1 for my Herceptin. It works by interfering with one of the ways in which cancer cells divide and grow and also attracts immune cells to help destroy any potential "nasties".
Was twiddling my fingers this morning in the hospital and decided to send a text to daughter, Morag whose baby has had some digestive problems. She said she did not receive it so my apologies to the person who received my text asking how the "poos" were today!
Friday, 11th December, 2009
Had lunch with Mhairi. Had booked at the Ritz (don't let the name fool you!) but they had a power cut so went to her office canteen across the road. Had a look round the Gyle in the p.m. Were invited to George Robertson's lecture in memory of Ken Munro at the Parliament in the early evening and finished off with a meal at the West End at "L'escargot Bleu".
Saturday 12th December, 2009
Not very eventful day but had a walk round and lunch at Ocean Terminal. Finished the Christmas cards and did a session in the gym late afternoon. Quiet night in.
Sunday, 13th December, 2009
Made it to Church for the short service. Did food shopping and had a visit from Mhairi to sort out and wrap children's presents. Went to John and Fiona Hutchison for buffet lunch which was a lovely Christmas event.
Monday, 14th December, 2009
Visit from Heather and did exercises together in the gym. Mhairi and the boys joined us for lunch and helped to dress the Christmas Tree (that was the theory anyway!) John was at a meeting a.m. and over lunch. Have not had any adverse affects after my Herceptin - long may it continue. Next "fix" should have been 30th December! As there is more leeway with Herceptin I have been able to change that date for the 6th January, 2010. Looks like I am on the "home run" and plan to finish this blog at the end of the week as there is not a lot more to say.
Tuesday, 15th December, 2009
Exercises in the a.m. Went to "Harmeny" for coffee and mince pies in the p.m. Great to see all the old "Friends" - Ron, Malcolm, Kerr and Rosemary. Now I know exactly where Kerr and Rosemary live on the Fife coast we will look forward to a cuppa the next time we are passing! Was sorry not to see Peter who was unwell today.

Bitty day waiting for the electrician to put in the new outside lights and also the man to fix the tumbler drier. Very special evening at the cabaret/dinner dance at Prestonfield House Stables. Thought I would put on some spray colour to make up for not being allowed in the sun this year. I forgot to put on the second coat so there was not much change of hue on myself but I have to say my bedding had a wonderful mediterranean tan!

Gym in the morning. Very frustrating time as I tried to book flights online with lots of problems too lengthy to go in to. Globespan has gone bust so we have managed to get flights from Standsted for our trip to Madeira in February......I think!
Met with the landscape gardener in Fife in the p.m. to pick plants for our new look in front of the house. Went on to Blackhall for a coffee in M & S and some shopping. Sleating this afternoon.
Tuesday, 22nd December, 2009
John and I met Mhairi for lunch at the New Club and did a bit of last minute Christmas shopping. Mhairi and the two children are staying with us now until Christmas which has the beginnings of being a white one.
Wednesday, 23rd December, 2009
Woke up to 6 inches of snow on the drive. Quite a rude awakening having to get up and shovel snow just to be able to get the car out. Big day today as we took Mhairi and the children on the Santa Clause Cruise at Ratho. The barge was unable to leave its mooring so Santa had to be transported from his island situated further up the canal. Went to MacDonalds for lunch (yuck!), followed by some sledging between the golf courses. You have heard about Mummy kissing Santa Clause? Well, now watch Granny dancing with him!
What is she doing?
(Grandsons Benjamin and Thomas)
Back to the top for the Grand Finale!
